André Apaid réfute les accusations de violations des droits humains et clarifie son engagement envers Haïti.-

Dans une note de presse émise le 26 juin 2023, André Apaid, un citoyen haïtiano-américain engagé, a répondu aux accusations de violations des droits humains, notamment de violence sexuelle, émises à son encontre par la Ministre des Affaires Étrangères du Canada, Mélanie Joly. Apeid exprime sa préoccupation quant à la compréhension de ses compatriotes, collaborateurs et famille face à ces allégations incompréhensibles.

André Apaid affirme être un fervent défenseur d’une résolution pacifique de la grave crise que traverse Haïti, et il souligne que de nombreux ambassadeurs, représentants des Nations Unies et personnalités crédibles de la société civile sont témoins de ses efforts et de sa contribution. Il mentionne avoir entamé à plusieurs reprises des démarches, en collaboration avec des représentants des droits humains, des leaders religieux et des personnalités de la société civile, pour amener les gangs à se soumettre à un processus de désarmement. Il rappelle notamment une négociation en 2004, où 9 chefs de gangs ont accepté de déposer 10 armes chacun devant les autorités policières, sans condition.

Malgré les difficultés rencontrées, notamment la résurgence des gangs, André Apeid affirme avoir poursuivi ses efforts en collaboration avec les représentants des droits humains, des religieux et de la société civile, avec le soutien de plusieurs ambassadeurs de la communauté internationale. Il souligne que lui-même, sa famille et leurs entreprises ont maintenu une politique stricte de non-financement des groupes armés, exposant ainsi leurs collaborateurs et leurs fils à d’énormes risques.

André Apeid réaffirme son engagement envers Haïti et sa volonté de retirer les armes des mains des jeunes tout en œuvrant pour des élections transparentes. Il met également en avant sa contribution à la création d’emplois, soulignant que malgré les troubles sociaux et l’instabilité, sa famille a travaillé pendant 71 ans pour créer des dizaines de milliers d’emplois dans les secteurs industriels et agricoles.

Il mentionne un vaste projet agricole en cours sur des terres confisquées et restituées par le gouvernement haïtien, qui prévoit de créer plus de 20 000 emplois au cours des 7 prochaines années. Apaid souligne également les initiatives sociales en cours, telles que des dons de terre aux agriculteurs, la construction d’un lycée et d’un marché financé par la Banque Mondiale, ainsi que l’ouverture d’une école d’excellence offrant des bourses d’études complètes à 250 jeunes de la région.

André Apaid exprime sa préoccupation quant aux conséquences de l’annonce de sanctions à son encontre par la Ministre des Affaires Étrangères du Canada. Il estime que cette mesure nuira au développement du projet, aux emplois attendus et aux initiatives sociales, aggravant ainsi les souffrances des plus vulnérables.

Malgré ces accusations, André Apeid reste déterminé à poursuivre ses efforts pour contribuer au bien-être d’Haïti. Il exprime sa confiance en Dieu, en sa famille et en ses collaborateurs, et affirme qu’il continuera à se battre pour que le bien et le bon l’emportent sur les difficultés rencontrées par son pays.

Il conclut sa note de presse en réitérant son rejet catégorique de toutes les accusations ou suspicions de contribution au climat d’insécurité ou de corruption, affirmant que ces allégations sont incompatibles avec le type d’emplois qu’il offre depuis des décennies en partenariat avec des entreprises canadiennes et américaines sérieuses.

André Apeid, en tant qu’homme d’affaires engagé et défenseur de la résolution pacifique de la crise haïtienne, cherche à clarifier son positionnement et à réaffirmer son engagement envers son pays et ses concitoyens.
