Port-au-Prince, le 19 février 2025 – L’avocat et figure politique haïtienne Me André Michel a exprimé sa satisfaction suite à l’annonce de l’annulation du carnaval national prévu à Fort Liberté. Cependant, il a tenu à préciser qu’il attend une communication officielle du gouvernement pour confirmer cette décision. Cette réaction fait suite aux révélations d’une source proche du Premier Ministre Alix Didier Fils Aimé, rapportées par le @nouvelliste, indiquant que le chef du gouvernement avait demandé au ministre de la Culture, Patrick Delatour, d’annuler l’événement.
Me André Michel, connu pour ses prises de position critiques envers les dépenses publiques jugées excessives, a salué cette décision, tout en rappelant le contexte difficile dans lequel se trouve le pays. « Après plusieurs dénonciations concernant l’allocation de 4 millions de dollars américains pour trois journées de carnaval à Fort Liberté, alors que le pays plonge dans le chaos de l’insécurité, compte des milliers de déplacés dans plusieurs communes de l’Ouest et fait face à des crises de famine, il était inconcevable que le CPT et le gouvernement prévoient encore des dépenses festives dans une telle situation », a-t-il déclaré à Haïti Premier.
Haïti traverse en effet une période critique, marquée par une insécurité grandissante, des déplacements massifs de populations fuyant les violences et une crise humanitaire sans précédent. Dans ce contexte, l’annonce de l’annulation du carnaval semble répondre à des préoccupations économiques et sociales pressantes. Pour Me André Michel, cette décision, si elle est confirmée, serait un pas dans la bonne direction. « Le gouvernement doit prioriser les besoins essentiels de la population plutôt que de dépenser des millions dans des festivités alors que des milliers de familles souffrent », a-t-il ajouté.

Malgré son soutien à cette décision, Me André Michel a insisté sur la nécessité d’une communication officielle et transparente de la part du gouvernement. « Nous ne pouvons pas nous contenter de rumeurs ou de sources anonymes. Le peuple haïtien mérite des explications claires et détaillées sur les raisons de cette annulation et sur l’utilisation des fonds initialement prévus pour le carnaval », a-t-il déclaré.
