Depuis début janvier, le niveau de stockage de gaz naturel dans les installations européennes atteint des niveaux records toujours plus bas. D’après les chiffres de Gas Infrastructure Europe du 25 février, l’ensemble des pays de l’UE n’étaient qu’à 29,5% de leurs capacités totales de stockage. De plus, 100% du gaz livré pendant la période estivale a été consommé.
« La totalité du gaz pompé cet été a été retirée des installations européennes. […] Les installations de stockage souterrain de l’Allemagne et de la France sont vides à 70,6 et 77,1% respectivement », souligne Gazprom sur Telegram.
L’entreprise souligne qu’habituellement ces réserves ne sont vides qu’à la fin mars ou la mi-avril. L’Europe devra désormais prélever des volumes qui avaient été stockés en 2020 et les années précédentes. Selon Gazprom, il faudra que le Vieux Continent pompe des volumes de gaz jamais atteints auparavant sur la saison estivale, et ce afin de reconstituer ses stocks pour l’hiver prochain, un « défi très sérieux ».
Crise du gaz
Alors que les prix du gaz ont flambé ces derniers mois, la situation en Ukraine n’a fait qu’aggraver cette tendance. Le 24 février, jour de l’annonce de l’opération militaire russe, ils ont bondi de 60%. Ce lundi, Gazprom a toutefois assuré qu’il continuait à fournir du gaz en Europe via l’Ukraine pour répondre aux demandes de ses clients. Le gazoduc Nord Stream 2 avait quant à lui vu son autorisation suspendue après la reconnaissance par Moscou de l’indépendance des Républiques de Donetsk et de Lougansk.
De son côté, l’Algérie s’est proposée d’augmenter ses livraisons de gaz à l’Europe via l’Italie. Le géant algérien des hydrocarbures Sonatech « est disposé à soutenir ses partenaires de long terme en cas de situations difficiles », a déclaré dimanche son PDG Toufik Hakkar, assurant qu’il est un « fournisseur fiable ». Actuellement, l’Algérie représente 11% des importations de gaz en Europe, et la Russie 40%.
