L’incroyable histoire de cet Haïtiano-Dominicain millionnaire à 16 ans

Il vivait dans un vieux taudis, trimballait une assiette en quémandant pour survivre. Le passé encore récent d’un jeune Haïtiano-Dominicain devenu millionnaire à 16 ans, grâce à ses talents d’athlète.

Robert Puason n’a que 16 ans. Depuis le début de la semaine du 1er juillet, il fait la une des médias dominicains qui parlent de son dernier exploit. L’adolescent d’origine haïtienne dont les parents vivent en République dominicaine depuis des lustres vient de décrocher un contrat professionnel dans le Major League Baseball (MLB) aux Etats-Unis.

En effet, Robert Puason, grâce à ses talents de joueur de Baseball, portera la saison prochaine les couleurs de Oakland Athletics, neuf fois champions de la MLB. Une bonne nouvelle pour le jeune Puason qui, issu d’une famille de quatre enfants, était obligé, selon les médias dominicains, de mendier son pain et laver les véhicules pour subvenir à ses besoins et ceux de ses petits frères.

 

« Il passa des heures à mendier sous les feux de circulation », rapporte Listin Diaro, soulignant que Puason ne pouvait tenir ses larmes au moment où il faisait ses tristes révélations. « Nous avons eu des moments difficiles. La vie nous a frappés durement », se souvient le jeune homme qui dit par ailleurs avoir toujours fait confiance à Dieu.

C’est lors qu’il avait 11 ans, que le propriétaire d’une ligue de baseball l’emmena dans la capitale, à Santo Domingo, pour s’entraîner dans le cadre d’un programme de Cristian Batista. Quelques mois plus tard, Puason était à l’académie JD Ozuna à Boca Chica, où il a fait ses armes. Il était si doué que Ozuna a rendu visite à sa famille, à qui elle a promis d’aider le garçon à passer au niveau supérieur.

Quelques années après, celui qui était obligé de mendier pour survivre a signé un contrat de 5.1 millions de dollars dans la meilleure ligue baseball du monde avec une équipe professionnelle américaine. Un exemple de réussite, selon Listin Diario.
