  1. The riverfront stretch under Queen’s Wharf extending to
QUT’s Gardens Point campus promises a similar legacy, and as an outdoor, subtropical city, it’s worth celebrating purposeful design that encourages people to explore more of
it. « Whether you are looking to spoil yourself for the weekend, a venue to catch up with friends, somewhere to take the family or the best view of Brisbane – we’ll have it all here for people to enjoy. » « What I love about this development is that we are building something that everyone will enjoy – public spaces, a ballroom that can also be converted into multiple smaller function rooms, world-class gaming, four new luxury hotels for Brisbane and also dining and beverage outlets that will connect into all the towers. Star first entered the deal with its the Hong Kong investors in early March, after months of warnings about its financial future — and prior to the bigger deal struck with Bally’s and the Mathiesons. Embattled casino operator Star Entertainment is facing a fresh blow, with a deal to exit a major Brisbane development on the brink of collapse.
It includes an in-depth exploration of the multimillion-dollar public art installations commissioned by the city as part of the revitalised riverside precinct. On the art front, Queen’s Wharf Brisbane has announced « Sheila, » a five-metre-high, five-tonne bronze sculpture by Brisbane artist Justene Williams, as part of its $3.6 billion public art offering. The opening phase will unveil a host of exciting attractions and facilities, positioning Queen’s Wharf as a major drawcard for both locals and tourists. This significant milestone comes after nearly two years of construction delays and challenges faced by operator Star Entertainment Group. Artist John Swadling’s painting, Isaac St. Spring Hill – A Brisbane Echo, is one of the finalists in the inaugural Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Art Prize. Over more than a decade, RLB collaborated closely with our visionary client, construction partner Multiplex, architect Cottee Parker and other stakeholders to navigate challenges from inclement weather to supply chain impacts. The Sky Deck is an engineering marvel, with 500 tonnes of suspended steel that soars 100 metres over William Street and spans four towers like a ship in the sky. RLB arguably boasts the world’s largest construction cost database, but gathering data is only part of the equation. These systems carefully tailored to suit the scale and complexity of the project, support safe and efficient access for maintenance personnel across all areas of the towers. Karabiner is proud to have delivered the complete design, engineering, and installation of bespoke façade access and height safety systems for the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development.
Brisbane is set to take a bold step into the future of urban tourism with the arrival of the landmark Queens Wharf Residences, a dazzling 64-storey tower that is redefining the skyline of Queensland’s capital. The deal would also relieve Star of financial commitments to invest more money into the Brisbane business, and all debts related to the project. The parties are renegotiating the deal after the Asian partners threatened to walk away from the March agreement.
Last week, Star shareholders separately approved a $300 million rescue deal backed by US casino giant Bally’s and existing investor Bruce Mathieson. Now, the two firms have issued Star with a notice to terminate the deal. The Hong Kong investors poised to buy Star out of Brisbane’s Queen’s Wharf development have threatened to walk away from the deal that was first inked back in March.
Direct access to the Queen’s Wharf precinct provides visitors with many dining experiences, such as HUĀ, which serves modern Chinese cuisine; Black Hide Steak & Seafood; and Japanese dining at Sokyo. « Developments such as Queen’s Wharf
are designed to bring people together, blending leisure,
business and culture in one destination. « As Brisbane’s skyline rises and visitor numbers soar, Queen’s Wharf Residences offers more than just a place to stay – it’s part of a broader vision for how the city is growing, » says

Star’s initial $248 million deal to sell the two buildings fell through in June 2023 when property investor Charter Hall pulled out.
The long queue of people waiting to enter the new Star Brisbane casino on Thursday.
A long queue of people gathered outside the new casino after the
doors opened on Thursday afternoon. The state government hit
Star with $100 million in fines in 2022 following « major failings » at its
Queensland casinos in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. In both Queensland and New
South Wales, the future of Star Entertainment Group as a casino
operator remains under a cloud. It enhances public
access to the riverfront and includes extensive walkways and a plaza
beneath the footbridge across the river.
Our waste team has provided consultative input, for the project’s design and development, over a 9-year period, from concept
design through to post-construction. The Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Project presented some significant hurdles in relation to the waste management disposal
and collection process. Mr Hughes said Star would have to address the
« cash burn » of future investments in Queen’s Wharf, particularly with a possible AUSTRAC penalty hanging above them.
In addition to those short-term payments, the termination means Star will be on the hook for future contributions to DBC, estimated to be around $200 million.
Another highlight is Leisure Deck – an open-air oasis situated between the precinct’s four
towers, delivering an impressive 12,000 square metres of
mixed-use space. Guests can enjoy spacious 1, 2, and 3-bedroom apartments featuring contemporary finishes, thoughtfully designed amenities, and effortless access to the city’s top attractions.
