Le théoricien du complot Alex Jones est sur le prêt à faire rétablir son compte sur X – anciennement Twitter – par Elon Musk.

Musk a demandé aux utilisateurs de voter dans un sondage pour savoir s’il fallait ou non lever une interdiction de Jones avant sa propriété de la plate-forme, signalant qu’il honorerait le résultat.

Environ 70 % des quelque deux millions de répondants ont voté pour lever l’interdiction.

Jones est surtout connu pour avoir faussement affirmé que la fusillade de l’école de Sandy Hook en 2012, au cours de laquelle 20 enfants et six adultes sont morts, a été « scène ».

Il a été condamné à payer 1,5 milliard de dollars (1,3 milliard de livres sterling) en dommages-intérêts aux membres de la famille des victimes, après que les tribunaux aient conclu qu’il les avait fait subir des harcèlements et des menaces de mort avec ses fausses allégations.

Jones, qui a fondé le site Web de théorie du complot Infowars, a été retiré d’autres grandes plateformes, y compris YouTube et Facebook.

Il a été banni de Twitter en 2018 pour avoir enfreint les règles du site sur les comportements abusifs.

Mais samedi, Musk a demandé aux utilisateurs de voter sur la question de savoir si Jones devrait ou non être autorisé à revenir – une répétition de la décision qui a vu le compte de l’ancien président américain Donald Trump rétabli un mois après que Musk a repris l’entreprise.

Après que Musk ait publié le sondage, Jones a partagé une vidéo en ligne dans laquelle il a appelé ses partisans à voter en faveur de l’a renversée de son interdiction.

À 05h00 GMT, l’ancien compte de Jones était toujours suspendu.

Répondant à un utilisateur samedi, Musk a déclaré qu’il était « veueusement » en désaccord avec les déclarations de Jones sur Sandy Hook, ajoutant : « mais sommes-nous une plate-forme qui croit en la liberté d’expression ou ne le sommes-nous pas ? »

Le mois dernier, il a accusé les principaux annonceurs d’avoir tenté de le « chanter » lorsqu’ils ont boycotté X sur les préoccupations concernant le contenu antisémite partagé sur le site – y compris un message de Musk lui-même, pour lequel il s’est ensuite excusé.
