Profondément choqué par la surprenante nouvelle de la mort du Dr Paul Farmer, survenue à Kigali au Rwanda en Afrique, ce lundi 21 février 2022, je réponds au devoir de saluer la mémoire d’un GRAND, d’un scientifique, d’un humaniste, d’un philanthrope, le docteur Paul Farmer.
Ce grand médecin et anthropologue de la santé, de nationalité américaine, peut être considéré comme un citoyen du monde, dévoué à la cause des plus faibles.
Pour son dévouement au service du peuple haïtien, notamment à travers l’organisation « Zanmi Lasante » dont il est le fondateur et par laquelle, il a mis en œuvre l’Hôpital de Cange et celui Universitaire de Mirbalais, dans le Département du Centre en Haïti, ainsi qu’un réseau de centres de santé à travers le pays, à titre posthume, le Dr Paul Farmer, mérite d’être décoré de la plus haute distinction haïtienne.
Ce serait un hommage bien mérité.
Le Dr Paul Farmer et notre compatriote le Dr Jean Willliam Pape sont les deux plus grands héros de la lutte contre la pandémie du sida en Haïti. Les résultats spectaculaires obtenus dans le cadre de leurs efforts, témoignent de l’efficacité de leurs actions médicales et humanitaires.
