Le lanceur d’alerte s’est dit « surpris et profondément attristé » par l’arrestation ce samedi du patron de la messagerie cryptée Telegram, le milliardaire franco-russe Pavel Durov, à l’aéroport du Bourget, en région parisienne. Il fustige directement Emmanuel Macron.

Une arrestation « qui rabaisse non seulement la France, mais aussi le monde entier ». Le lanceur d’alerte Edward Snowden a dénoncé ce dimanche 25 août l’interpellation, ce samedi à l’aéroport du Bourget, du fondateur et PDG de la messagerie cryptée Telegram, le franco-russe Pavel Durov.

L’homme était visé en France par un avis de recherche pour refus de modération de contenus en lien avec des mineurs sur Telegram. La plateforme est connue pour ne pas censurer les messages de ses utilisateurs, si bien qu’elle est utilisée à des fins de blanchiment d’argent, de trafic de stupéfiants ou encore de partage de contenus pédocriminels.

En refusant de modérer ces contenus, Pavel Durov s’en est rendu complice du point de vue de la loi française.

« Atteinte aux droits fondamentaux »

« L’arrestation de Pavel Durov est une atteinte aux droits fondamentaux de l’homme que sont la liberté d’expression et d’association », a fait valoir sur X (anciennement Twitter) Edward Snowden, réfugié en Russie depuis sa publication d’informations classifiées en 2013 sur la surveillance de masse des populations réalisée par des agences de renseignements américaines et britanniques.

Militant pour un internet « libre » et pour le respect des données personnelles, l’Américain, naturalisé russe en 2022, s’est dit « surpris et profondément attristé que Macron soit descendu au niveau de la prise d’otages comme moyen d’accéder à des communications privées ».

Exilé depuis plus de 10 ans, Edward Snowden bénéficie de la protection du pouvoir russe, après avoir été employé par la CIA. Il a été inculpé aux États-Unis pour espionnage et vol de bien gouvernementaux. En 2020, un programme de surveillance dont l’existence et l’utilisation par l’agence de renseignement américaine NSA avait été révélée par Edward Snowden a été jugé illégal par la justice américaine.
