PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haïti (AP) – Les autorités d’Haïti ont arrêté vendredi l’ancien chef rebelle Guy Philippe dans un poste de police où il est resté un jour après que les États-Unis l’aient rapatrié en Haïti, a déclaré son avocat.

L’ancien chef rebelle a déjà été chef de police de la ville côtière du nord du Cap-Haitien et avait récemment été élu au Sénat haïtien lorsque les autorités locales l’ont arrêté en Haïti en janvier 2017 alors qu’il participait à une émission de radio en direct.
Il a été extradé aux États-Unis, où il a été condamné à neuf ans de prison après avoir plaidé coupable à une accusation de blanchiment d’argent. Les autorités avaient déclaré qu’il avait utilisé son poste de haut rang au sein de la police nationale d’Haïti pour fournir une protection aux expéditions de drogue en échange de jusqu’à 3,5 millions de dollars en pots-de-vin.
